Putting too much water can be done easily without giving it much thought. If we are in the middle of a drought, or a lack of rain, watering in the mornings and evenings is the best time. If you water in the middle of the day then this can heat up the water and actually kill your grass. cooling off your grass in the middle of the day though can benefit the lawn. Do not soak it, just wet it for a few minutes and then you are good to go!
AS I have stressed in previous articles, do not wait for your grass to get much taller than your ideal height. When mowing, try to only cut a third of the grass blade off. If it is 3 inches then cut it down to 2 inches. if you do not do this then it can put the grass into shock and quickly ruin the process that you have made by turning yellow or even die. During a drought when you cannot water the grass regularly avoid mowing unless you have to.
dull blades can be your enemy. Dull blades tear the plant more than just cutting it. By doing this it can damage the plant tissue and make the grass blades turn brown. By using a sharp blade it is a clean and crisp cut that the grass heals from quickly.
Bagging your grass when mowing can work against you in some instances. For an extra boost to your yard, returning the clippings to the lawn can boost your lawn's health. the best way to do this is with a mulch kit.
Doing year round work is the most important step in beating the summer heat. Things such as spraying, pest control, and you could even aerate your yard!
